Press Questions
Date: 20th July, 1950.
The following question has been asked by the
press. Can we please have a clarification
before the weekend.
'It has been reported that Government's new ruling
permits renewal of land on condition that payment is made
based on current market values of land, otherwise Govern-
ment will reclaim the land and property thereon without
compensation to the investor. The position is this that
most of the property was built before the war and rentals
are subject to the Landlord and Tenant Ordinance. If the
lease is renewed on payment of current land values, the
lessee's return on his capital would be negligible as his
income from controlled rentals would still be the same.'
